Questions / How-To Vidoes for Editors: taking requests
« on: December 19, 2013, 20:35 »
I'm finally making some editor how-to videos like I've been promising, but I don't remember all the ones I've said I'd do.  Here's my list so far:

Typesetter tutorials:  http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=4684.0
Centering text
Using Nexus Font
Using Typesetterer
Adding textures to text
Type tool presets

Cleaner tutorials:
Using screentones
Using the pen tool for redrawing
Perfect cloning incl. healing brush
Using actions
Leveling/Dodging/Burning
Auto cleaning

If you have any you'd like me to make, please request here! I'll eventually do one for Topaz Denoise, but I'm still getting used to the new version of it so it's not on the immediate list.

Edit: I'm striking them off as I make them.

Lounge / OMG Y'all - Voice Sim Alarms
« on: November 22, 2013, 22:40 »
I just discovered something hilarious and awesome.  And awesomely hilarious.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Visualworks+Co.,+Ltd.

It's called "Sleepy-time Boyfriend.  It's anime men who say sweet things to you before you go to sleep and you can set it for alarms.  Well, technically it's pictures of anime men with voice actors, but it's great.  I downloaded one by the V.A. who did Sado in Bleach and I crack up every time he says something.

I just keep picturing these men sitting in a recording booth saying "I will pinch your cheek as a punishment" in the sexiest tone they can.

I'm totally waking up to this tomorrow morning... *skip

Artist's Showcase / Bentos!
« on: October 31, 2013, 00:15 »
In an effort to help my kid develop interest in healthy food, I've been making bentos for her to take to school.  I make a decoben once a week (twice this week since it's Halloween!), and I'm not very good at them, but it's fun!

I've been posting the pictures on facebook for my friends and family, and they really like them but if you look closely you can see all the paint smears and things aren't packed as tightly or prettily as I'd like, but for being new at it, they're not too bad!

Does anyone else make bentos? Do you do deco/kyaraben, and if so, how long does it take you? Some of these take me hours - more proof that I'm still very new.

First day of school: she requested angry birds so I made them out of cheese. Very rough!

Meatball owls! The eyes wouldn't stay on very well, but they were cute anyway.

The Pumpkin King! The pumpkin "patch" is made of sweet potatoes, and the quail eggs are painted with food coloring.  As you can see, the paint bleeds a lot on eggs.  I found out the hard way and my eggs looked super evil. orz

Tricks 'n Treats! I hid a chocolate-covered cherry inside the brown rice onigiri.  The rice is dyed with food coloring, then I used the same to paint on the face.  The hot dogs were supposed to look like fingers, but failed. :-(

Spiders made from painted quail eggs.  The web is string cheese, and the weird-looking butterfly is a cocktail wiener and paper-thin carrot slice.

Lifestyle / Ugh...quick vent, feel free to ignore >.<
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:05 »
I've mentioned once or twice how my husband and I have custody issues with my stepdaughter's mother who's completely unfit to be a mother.

So Saturday afternoon my stepdaughter told me her mother had given her a shot on Thursday morning.  This kid doesn't have any medical needs that require at-home shots, so what her mother did was unnecessary, illegal, and scary.  So we took her to the ER to have a toxicology screening, and for her to talk to some doctors and get this recorded officially.  Since it had been 2 1/2 days, her screening came back clear and they couldn't even see a puncture wound, but the injection site is bruised and had a scratch.

Of course this counts as child abuse, so children's services had to get involved, and so we had a caseworker come to our house on Monday to talk to us and my kid.  The mother has been in the hospital since Thursday afternoon, and no one would tell my kid or us why.  They've since alluded that it has something to do with her prescription drug addiction [that was supposedly a thing of the past].

I've been so focused on my daughter that I haven't been able to even THINK about Transcendence the last few days.  And then today her grandmother picked her up to take her back to her other house, and we won't see her until Sunday.  Her mom isn't currently there now, but I still feel lost, like she's out of my reach and I can't protect her while she's there.

I was so ready to jump into catching up here after she left, but then found myself with the drive to do NOTHING except play Otome games and sleep.  And then I feel bad because I'm shirking responsibility.  BAH.  But Otome games are fun, I'm finding.  Nice distraction.

I just needed to get this off my chest.  I'll feel better tomorrow, when I have a fresh chance to be productive.

Guidelines / [New] Guideline: Typesetter
« on: September 18, 2013, 21:47 »
I've been meaning to update the TS guidelines for a while, and to make it easier I'm basically just copying and modifying Xye's old guidelines instead of modifying her post since that whole thread was outdated.  I've locked and unstickied her thread, which is here for comparison.  Yes this post is really long, but it should pretty much be EVERYTHING a Typesetter needs.
 :woohehe:

Things you need to know:
- All files must be saved in .png format
- Naming Rule: http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=5.0
- It is strongly suggested that you have a mediafire or megaupload account, so that your files will not be deleted.
- Don't forget to add the Recruitment and Credits page (if it is not already added by the cleaner) and make sure that the Credits page is updated with the correct information.
- Saving Rule: http://forum.ourtranscendence.com/index.php?topic=1915.0
- All text in boxes or bubbles should be centered both horizontally and vertically.
- SFX fonts should be similar to the font used for the raw.  When the SFX has not been removed by the cleaner, use a similar font and font direction, but smaller size.  In this case, if you choose to include "SFX:" before the translation, it should use the same font.
- Font choices and size should be consistent throughout the chapter and with previous chapters.  Project managers should provide a font specification/list for their projects.
- Thoughts in bubbles should ALWAYS be in Main Talk font, #666666. There are a few exceptions to these rules such as if the thought bubble is spikey/yelling/etc.

Two VERY important notes:

- Please set your text anti-aliasing to "smooth" because it kills people's eyes when they are set as strong, etc.
- Make sure that your text layers are all above the leveling layers. Why? Well because they affect the texts too! In some of the chapters the words look over-leveled (which kills the eyes).

Fonts to Use:
These are the standard fonts we use for our projects. It is not a strict rule set in stone, and every project has its own font list.  The most important point is that fonts be consistent within projects.  For new projects, Project Managers should use this list as a template to guide your choices in creating your own font list. PM's should confirm their font list with the Head Editor.

Regular Speech: Anime Ace 2.0 BB 11px  Changes to this must be approved by the head editor on a per-project basis.
Small Speech/Text: Augie 14px
Narration: Felt  #666666 3px white stroke
Yelling: I Want My TTR, Badaboom
Scary: Death Rattle BB, Necropsy, Incubus
Scared/Nervous: Shock Therapy, Blam Blam BB
Cute/Bubbly: Angelina, Cutie Pop, Kitty Spoon
Signs: Marker Felt
TL/Ed/TS Note: FlairSSK
Hearts: Luv n Kisses do not write <3 for hearts; use Luv n Kisses b, c, or d keys to match the heart in the raw.
Electronic: Midnight Kernboy

Aw man, I really wish we'd translated page 36 (last page).  I want to know what's being said that involves all those pictures of Nika's mom in her underwear.  I bet it's hilarious.

This chapter was fantastic, wasn't it?? I just love how ridiculous it all is.

Fanfiction / "The Last Wanderer" Poem :-)
« on: June 29, 2013, 01:19 »
I don't normally post the stuff I write publicly, but I felt like doing it for once.
I wrote this for a poetry contest at my library...in about 20 minutes, the night before the deadline... *dead

The Last Wanderer

I stand in a dark, still world.
The silence stretches before me.
All sounds are muffled,
But the whispers of the trees.

I walk through a cold, empty world.
The night yawns around me.
My presence remains unnoticed;
There is no one around to see
This watcher who wanders through
The night devoid of dreams.

I live in a dark, lonely world.
The silence spreads through eternity
And my existence leaves no trace,
For there is nothing left of me.
The stars watch over me in my isolation
But offer no reply to silent pleas.
I gaze above at the vast, desolate sky
And shrink beneath that boundless sea.

As I walk through this cold, dead world
A shade among shadows,
I join my soundless voice
To the murmurings of the trees.

I am so alone.
I am so alone.

Lounge / I Screen You Screen
« on: June 11, 2013, 23:28 »
I was taking a screen cap to show off my manga bookmarks (read: nerdiness) and I realized that my screen really shows a lot about me, so I decided to do it meme style and turn it into a game!

To play, just take a screen capture of your computer screen and label it with all the things that are really indicative of you.  You can submit more than one, but no more than once a day.

Here's mine:

Yep.  I'm a total geek...

Manga / Skip Beat! Fangirl thread
« on: June 09, 2013, 19:48 »
So.  This is, to me, the thing I've been wondering about for a while.  We've already seen that Kyouko has fallen for Ren, but she's being stubborn about it.  And we know she'll never go back to Shou because she's become an entirely different person since he broke her heart.

BUT.  Shou has shown (ha.  Shoun.  Bahaha)  that he at least acknowledges Kyouko now, and is attracted to her, if not necessarily harboring romantic feelings.  SO.  WHICH IS IT??? Will he ever fall for her and get his just desserts???

Music & Movies / Flower Boy Next Door (Korean Romantic Comedy)
« on: February 02, 2013, 14:10 »
Here's the website on Good Drama: http://www.gooddrama.net/korean-drama/flower-boy-next-door

It's about a young woman who basically has agoraphobia due to a past trauma and rarely leaves her apartment.  She's infatuated with the man who lives across the street, and watches him all the time.  When his younger brother comes to visit him and catches her spying, he tries really hard to break down her barriers.

There's a hint of romance between them, but as of chapter 7, where I am now, nothing has developed.  The man who lives next door to her, though, is in love with her and wants to slowly get to know her so as not to shock her and drive her away, so he can't confess.

The whole thing is hilarious and cute and full of eyecandy and I really REALLY wanted to share this one.  Here are screen caps of my favorite scene:

Lounge / The Daily D'Awww
« on: December 24, 2012, 13:03 »
Ok this is something I kind of randomly spewed in Roze's kitten thread and decided that we NEED THIS.  What is the Daily D'aww? A daily dose of "OMG IT'S SO CUTE I WANNA SQUEE."

Because most of us are girls and it's in our nature to like cute things (and I think Harrstein has a soft spot for fluffy things that he may or may not admit to), and it can just make your day a little bit better to see something squee-worthy.

So please post things that are adorable so we can all feel all warm and fuzzy.

Questions / Cleaners: How many pages a day?
« on: June 18, 2012, 02:17 »
Ok all you other cleaners and editors:  How many pages a day do you manage to clean on average?

Right now I'm able to do an average of 4 pages a day - total, not necessarily of each chapter (I'm working on two).  Sometimes it's two pages each, some days, like today, it's 4 of one chapter.

Is this normal???? Since I'm new to this I don't know!! But I also run a business and have a husband and four year old who need my attention, so I don't know if I should be aiming higher or not.
